Junkers JU-88 A4

Elephants Cave

Junkers-88 - a German WW2 bomber plane - lies at 21m, 2miles offshore the Rethymno coast. Sunk 1942, this particular wreck is one of the best preserved JU-88 wrecks in the Mediterranean, the wings and fuselage remain intact, and the cockpit damage is still visible.

Marine biodiversity here is limited, but the site offers an exciting opportunity for advanced divers to explore a historic war relic. Only one crew member is thought to have survived - respectful diving is a must.
